Tik Tok Inspired Dalgona Coffee

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

Coffee is life.

No I don't have tik tok, but I tried making this trending drink. I think I nailed it. Anyways, why am I writing a blog just on this drink? Well, I learned something from it.

Patience

“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good atitude while waiting." -Joyce Meyer

OK...this one is kind of obvious. It's a drink you can make with three simple ingredients that you can find in any kitchen: instant coffee, sugar, hot water. But it's not a drink you can make with simple skills. Whisking is hard. Period. Using a machine doesn't count...this challenge is to fully use your arm muscles. I don't have a whisk in my kitchen so I used chopsticks, and BOY did that make it harder to whisk the three simple ingredients together. I watched a lot of youtube vidoes on people making it. Some people were able to fully whisk it in 10 minutes which is still pretty long, and others were able to do it in 20 minutes. I took over 20 minutes...my arm already feels bigger and stronger. It was a good excercise, but a terrible experience. I learned a lot within the time. Minutes seems like a short time to us and it is in life! But when you're doing nothing, but whisking, it can seem like years. While whisking, I began to reflect on myself. I was already getting irritated and I wanted to call it quits within the first 10 minutes. It then dawned me. I called coffee "life" because I knew that I wouldn't survive without that delicous caffeine. But should I really give up on "life" within the first 10 minutes? Yes, life is nothing compared to a cup of coffee, but you know where I'm going... We're so quick to give up, to get irritated, and to never look back on it when it never goes our way. Sometimes, we're able to pull through some stumbles and obstacles, but gosh...there are countless times where we have let our fustration take over. It's natural, but should we let this keep happening? Obviously, no. We need to learn to remain calm, neutral, and especially, patient. It's not just about waiting. It's about keeping a good attitude.

Direction

Huh? Direction? Yes, I learned a lot about direction. When you whisk and whisk for as long as 20 minutes or even longer like me, were you ever consistent in your direction? I don't know. You may have whisked the ingredients to the left passionately, and then you may have gotten tired and started whisking towards the right. The point is, think of the Dalgona you were whisking as life again. In life, there are many different spins, turns, and directions. Sometimes we choose the right direction (right as in correct, not in direction... LOL) and we can be consistent with the right choices in life. Sometimes, we bump and stumble and may turn to a different direction. A wrong direction is never a bad direction, but it's not the best. In life, we may come across problems that anger us, that fustrates us, but it's important that we learn to remain constitent in the right direction at all times. We may stumble, but we never fall. There are times we want to give up, but we keep going(sounds really vague, but I mean it). Keep your consistency, keep your direction in life, and not just a directions, but the right direction.

Get Inspired

This ties back to patience, but still unique in its own way. I waited for my result while whisking the Dalgona. Didn't you guys want to see that creamy, soft coffee foam? As each minute passed, I noticed a difference. The gradual, but slow result is what inspired me to keep whisking no matter how draining it was. I was able to see that I was getting one step closer each time. No matter how long it takes, be inspired by what's in front of you. Don't be impatient and wait for the result to appear magically in front of you. Pay attention to what's already there, and sooner or later your result will be right before your eyes!
