Have you ever felt worn out with no motivation to start on your homework and feels as if the pile of school work is never ending? As if you are repeating a never ending cycle? Well you are not the only one. What you may be experiencing may be a burnout. “Academic burnout can be defined as a negative emotional, physical and mental reaction to prolonged study that results in exhaustion, frustration, lack of motivation and reduced ability in school.”- (University of people) As a student who has always been pressured and expected nothing but the best grades, burnouts are sadly common. As the piles of school work continue to grow you may resort to putting it off until the last minute. You know doing the homework the class before or even better as the teacher is collecting it. Putting all of your effort into an assignment in such a small amount of time. Doing this constantly is exhausting. The key to preventing this from feeling tired all the time is to set time for yourself, or if you know you'll be busy in the upcoming days plan out a small amount of time for yourself.
You can do things like:
-Watch an episode of your favorite show (or a couple not a whole season though)
-Read
-Listen to music
-Paint
-Bake
-Exercise
-Or do whatever calms you down
Through these burnouts you may feel like distancing yourself from your friends but on the contrary you should reach out to them and talk to them. They most likely will be just as exhausted as you and may understand what you’re going through. They key to getting through these burnouts is to remind yourself of your goals and to keep pushing through.
