3 things to Ask Yourself Before Giving Up

I'm sure you've been told by many teachers, friends, and family to never give up. At the moment, it's so easy to be motivated but it's always easy to give up when you encounter a challenge

“Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” - John Wooden

Okay...this may sound like inspirational quotes you've heard billion times before. I'm not a philosopher or a speaker, but follow me along.

Did I take a shower today?

Seriously, ask yourself that. A good day starts and ends with a clean feeling. I need you to realize one thing. You feel like quitting when things are not going as planned, or whatever it is, it's stressing you out like crazy. It's understandable. Don't you get irritated when people tell you to never give up? It's positive, but everyone says that. You heard it so much that it seems like hearing it again won't help at all. Trust me, I feel the same way as well. As tiring as it is to hear it again, it's true. You just have to push yourself. BUT FIRST, take a shower. As silly as it may sound, just ask yourself that first. Maybe you need to cool off, maybe you need to distract yourself for just a moment, maybe you need a break, the list goes on and on. Don't go on your phone for social media. It's your worst enemy when it comes to staying focused and motivated. Instead. take a nice, relaxing shower. Oh and don't forget to change your underwear.

WHY?

Okay, I admit, this is pretty obvious and is not unique from other tips to stay motivated. But this is really helpful. Again, don't think about what you're struggling with. Just free your mind from everything, and just think about why you want to give up besides the reason that it's difficult or hard. Let me remind you that nothing in life is ever easy. There are challenges all the time. I want you to think about how far you've come and if it's really worth it to give up on something you've worked so hard on. All the time, I want you to remember why you started this in the first place. Think about your initial end goal. Was it a long-term goal? If so, I suggest you set up tiny goals to reach your long-term goal and reward yourself upon each tiny accomplishment because you deserve it.

What did I eat?

This sounds like another silly question, but I don't mean literally "eat". Unless you really starved and you might be hangry. If that's the case, just eat. Food is life and it'll brighten your mood right away. But I seriously mean here is, what are you carrying in your mind today? Bitterness, anger, frustration? What was your day like so far, and what did you take away from it? It's possible that something is bothering you, and that's totally okay. What has been "eating" you up? An incident with a friend, family member? Whatever it is, I don't want you to just forget about it. I want you to face it. How? That's not my question to answer. But think carefully. Why is that thing "eating" you? Whatever it is, you can solve it by facing it. Face your challenges, your fears, anything that is "eating" you? Maybe you just need a friend to talk to, someone or something to let go. Before anything, just breathe and think. Then face it.
